The tool
What the ChatGPT essay rewriter does
Paste an essay and the ChatGPT essay rewriter rewrites it: sentence shapes change, the hedges and connectors thin out, the three-part lists stop arriving on schedule. Your argument, your evidence and your facts are meant to come through unchanged, because the instruction the server runs tells it to preserve meaning and factual claims.
It is a rewriter, not a research assistant. It will not add a source you did not have, check a date you got wrong, or strengthen an argument that is weak. It changes how the essay reads.
How it works
How to rewrite a ChatGPT essay in three steps
Three steps, and the optional middle one is the part most people skip and should not.
- Step 1
- Paste the essay, up to 12,000 characters. That is roughly 1,800 to 2,000 words, so most coursework essays fit in one pass.
- Step 2
- Add an instruction if you want one. The field takes up to 300 characters: keep the quotations exactly, hold it under 900 words, make the tone less formal.
- Step 3
- Run it and read the result against your original. Check the facts survived before you use a word of it.
The instruction box
What to type in the instruction field
The instruction field is a free-text box of up to 300 characters, sent to the server along with your essay. It is not a menu of preset modes, which means you can ask for things a menu would never offer.
- Protect something
- "Do not change any sentence inside quotation marks." Useful when the essay carries direct quotes you must not paraphrase.
- Set a length
- "Cut this to about 800 words without losing any of the four main claims."
- Change register
- "Less formal, shorter sentences, no rhetorical questions."
- Keep the structure
- "Keep my paragraph order and headings exactly as they are; rewrite only within paragraphs."
- Name the target
- "This is for a first-year history essay, so keep the terminology basic."
The blunt one
A rewrite does not fix plagiarism
Several free essay rewriters advertise that their output is original, unique or plagiarism free. That is not how it works, and it is worth saying clearly because a student who believes it can get into serious trouble.
Plagiarism is about where an idea or a passage came from, not about which words carry it. Run a paragraph copied from a journal article through any rewriter and you still have a paragraph copied from a journal article, now harder to cite correctly. If the source needed a citation before the rewrite, it needs the same citation after. This tool changes wording. It cannot change provenance, and we will not pretend it does.
The mechanism
Why this is not a synonym swapper
The older generation of essay rewriters worked word by word: highlight a word, offer three synonyms, substitute. That produces the prose everyone recognises, where ordinary words have been replaced by their most formal cousins and the sentence underneath has not moved at all. Utilise for use, commence for start, myriad for many.
This rewriter works on sentences. It can split a long one, join two short ones, drop a hedge, move a clause to the front. That is where the ChatGPT rhythm actually lives, so that is where the rewrite has to happen. A thesaurus pass leaves the shape intact and only makes the vocabulary stranger.
Direct answer
Does this make my essay undetectable?
No. We do not test this rewriter against Turnitin, GPTZero, Copyleaks or Originality.ai, we do not tune its output to move their scores, and we have no affiliation with any of them. Nobody outside those companies can tell you what their systems will report, and any tool that guarantees you a verdict is guaranteeing something it does not control.
Several pages ranking for this search end their advice with a step that is explicitly about evading detection. That is not the step we publish. What is on offer here is a rewrite that reads better, with your facts intact.
After the rewrite
What to check before you use the result
A rewrite is a draft, not a finished essay, and the checks below take two minutes. Any rewriter, ours included, can quietly shift a qualifier and change what a sentence claims.
Read the numbers, dates and names against your original. Check that every quotation still matches its source word for word, because a rewrite that paraphrases inside quotation marks has invented a quote. Check that hedges were not strengthened into certainties: a sentence that said a study suggests something and now says it proves it is a different claim. Then read it aloud. If it does not sound like you, the essay has not gained anything.
Who it's for
Who uses the ChatGPT essay rewriter, and when
Students who drafted with ChatGPT, know the argument is theirs, and want the prose to stop announcing where it came from. Students who wrote it themselves and got the comment that it reads flat or formulaic, which is an editing problem the rewriter can genuinely help with.
Writers outside education too: anyone with a draft that reads stiff and a deadline that does not allow three passes. Whoever you are, the same rule holds. Read the output before you send it, because the rewriter has opinions and no knowledge of what you actually meant.
