Text space remover

What the text space remover does

The text space remover strips every space character out of a block of text and returns one unbroken string. Paste the text in, press the button, copy the result. Spaces, tabs, line breaks and the invisible Unicode spaces that ordinary find-and-replace misses all come out in the same pass.

It runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there is no cap on how much text you clean or how often you come back. There is no account to create and nothing to pay.

How it works

How to remove spaces from text in three steps

There is nothing to install and no settings to configure. The whole thing takes a few seconds.

Step 1
Paste your text into the input box, or type it directly.
Step 2
Press Remove spaces. The tool runs instantly, on your own machine.
Step 3
Copy the result from the output box on the right.

What comes out

Which space characters get removed

This is where a dedicated space remover beats find-and-replace. The space bar produces one character, U+0020, but a dozen others render as a gap on screen and survive a search for a normal space.

Text that has passed through a web page, a PDF, a word processor or an AI chat window usually carries a mixture. They look identical and behave differently.

Regular spaces
The standard space bar character, U+0020.
Non-breaking spaces
U+00A0, extremely common in text copied from web pages.
Tabs and line breaks
Tab characters, carriage returns and newlines.
Unicode spaces
Thin space, hair space and the rest of U+2000–U+200A.
Ideographic space
U+3000, the full-width space used in Chinese, Japanese and Korean text.

Why it matters

What stray spaces actually break

The failures are hard to diagnose because the text looks right. A lookup in a spreadsheet returns nothing because a cell ends in a space you cannot see. Two strings that appear identical refuse to compare equal. A form rejects a value with no useful error.

Further downstream, a URL slug carrying a non-breaking space resolves to a different address than the one you meant. A CSV import splits a column in the wrong place. A filename with a trailing space behaves differently on Windows and Linux. A password field silently fails on a character you never typed on purpose.

A common frustration

Why removing spaces in Word or Notepad leaves some behind

This is the single most common reason people go looking for a space remover. You run find-and-replace on a space, it reports a number of replacements, and gaps are still visible in the text.

The reason is that find-and-replace searched for U+0020 and the remaining gaps are not U+0020. They are non-breaking spaces, thin spaces or ideographic spaces, and a search for one character will never match a different one no matter how identical they look.

This tool does not search for a single character. It removes every character Unicode classifies as whitespace, which is why nothing is left behind.

Straight answer

Does it remove all spaces or just the extra ones?

All of them. This tool is for turning text into one continuous string with no gaps at all, which is what you want for a slug, a key, a filename or a field that rejects whitespace.

If you want to keep single spaces between words and only collapse the runs of two or more, that is a different job and a different tool: use the whitespace minifier. If you only want to strip spaces from the ends of lines and leave the rest alone, the text splitter and the duplicate line remover handle line-level tidying.

Choosing the wrong one is the usual mistake. Removing every space from a paragraph of prose leaves you with an unreadable block, which is correct behaviour and rarely what someone editing an article wants.

In practice

Who uses a text space remover, and when

Developers use it to clean values copied out of documentation before pasting them into code, where a stray non-breaking space becomes a syntax error that no editor renders visibly.

People working with data exports use it when a spreadsheet column has picked up whitespace that breaks a VLOOKUP or a join. Anyone building URL slugs, filenames, database keys or API tokens uses it because those fields reject spaces outright.

It also comes up in translation and localisation work, where text arriving from Chinese, Japanese or Korean sources carries ideographic spaces that Western tools do not expect.

FAQ

Text space remover FAQ

Everything below is answered in full, nothing to click open.

How do I remove all spaces from text?

Paste the text into the box above and press Remove spaces. Every space, tab and line break is stripped and the result appears on the right, ready to copy.

Is the text space remover free?

Yes, entirely free. There is no signup, no trial and no usage limit, because the tool runs in your browser rather than on a server we pay to operate.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The processing happens on your own machine in JavaScript. Nothing is sent over the network, which is why it is safe for confidential drafts.

How do I remove extra spaces but keep single spaces?

Use the whitespace minifier instead. It collapses runs of two or more spaces down to one and leaves normal word spacing intact.

Why does find-and-replace leave spaces behind?

Because it searches for one specific character, usually U+0020. Non-breaking and Unicode spaces look identical but are different codepoints, so a search for a normal space never matches them.

Does it remove line breaks too?

Yes. Tabs, carriage returns and newlines are all whitespace, so they come out along with the spaces and the text becomes a single line.

Will it remove non-breaking spaces?

Yes. U+00A0 is one of the most common characters left behind by other methods, and it is removed here along with the thin, hair and ideographic spaces.

Can I use it on large amounts of text?

Yes. There is no length cap and no run limit. Very large inputs depend on your own device's memory rather than on any restriction we impose.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. It works in any modern mobile browser with no app to install, since all the work happens on the device.

Does removing spaces change my words?

No. Only whitespace characters are removed. Every letter, digit and punctuation mark comes back exactly as it went in, in the same order.

Can I remove spaces from code?

You can, but be careful. Whitespace is significant in Python, YAML and Markdown, and inside string literals in any language. Removing all of it will break those files.

What is the difference between this and a whitespace minifier?

This removes every space. The minifier collapses multiple spaces into one. Use this for slugs and keys, and the minifier for tidying readable prose.

Why does my text look like one long word afterwards?

That is the tool working correctly: removing every space joins the words together. If you wanted readable text with tidier spacing, the whitespace minifier is the right tool.

Does it handle Chinese, Japanese and Korean text?

Yes. The ideographic space U+3000 used in CJK typesetting is recognised as whitespace and removed along with the rest.

Can it remove spaces from the ends of lines only?

Not on its own. This tool removes every space in the text. For trailing whitespace specifically, clean the text and rebuild the line breaks, or use the text splitter.

Is there an API or a batch mode?

No. This is a single browser tool with no account and no API. You can paste as much text as your browser handles in one go.

Do I need an extension or an install?

No. It is a web page. Nothing to install, no permissions to grant and no extension required.

Why did my word count change after removing spaces?

Word counters use spaces to find word boundaries. With every space removed the whole text reads as one word, which is expected.

Is it safe for confidential or client text?

Yes, as far as transmission goes, nothing leaves your browser and nothing is stored. Closing the tab ends it entirely.

Will it remove zero-width characters as well?

Zero-width characters are a separate class and are handled by the zero-width space remover. Use that one if invisible characters are breaking search or comparison.

Remove every space, free, in your browser.

No signup, no upload, no limit on how much text you clean.
